Cardio-Oncology
Cancer treatment may affect heart health in some patients that have an increased risk of heart disease. The Cardio-Oncology program at the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center provides a collaborative approach to your cancer treatment needs.
Our team includes specialists from Mercy’s award-winning Heart Center and your oncologists at the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center. In addition to receiving quality cancer therapy, the heart specialists and oncologists will evaluate the patient’s risk of heart complications and will treat any heart conditions.
Oncologists may refer a patient to Cardio-Oncology before, during or after cancer therapy to provide comprehensive, coordinated care for cancer patients who:
- Have a high risk of developing heart disease
- Have existing heart disease
- Develop heart disease or heart complications after cancer therapy
Our Cardio-Oncology team advises patients with a high risk or existing heart disease before cancer therapy, as well as those who may develop heart disease or complications after cancer therapy and will evaluate how to prevent, monitor and treat heart conditions. The team will propose cancer treatment options and monitor heart health throughout the patient’s treatment.
Post cancer treatment, the team will conduct heart screenings and further treatments as needed. To help patients after cancer therapy, our team can provide information about diet, exercise and stress management tools.
